Tesla Science Center Hosts Inaugural Tesla’s Table Salon Dinner at Historic New Yorker Hotel

Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe (TSCW) debuted its newest signature event series on March 27, 2025, with the inaugural Tesla’s Table NYC Salon Dinner, held at the iconic New Yorker Hotel, where Nikola Tesla spent the final decade of his life.

The exclusive evening honored the spirit of Tesla’s famed salon dinners of the late 1800s and early 1900s—where scientists, artists, and cultural figures gathered for rich conversation, experimental demonstrations, and shared vision. The modern rendition brought that tradition into the 21st century with an evening of networking, immersive science experiences, historical storytelling, and fine dining—all centered around Tesla’s legacy and the ongoing mission of TSCW.

Reimagining Tesla’s Salons for Today

Guests were welcomed with hands-on exhibitions led by TSCW volunteer Steve Matza, who engaged attendees with interactive demonstrations inspired by Tesla’s early electrical experiments. The exhibition created an open, playful environment that broke the ice and invited participants to connect through curiosity.

Marc Alessi, Executive Director of TSCW, presented a multimedia overview of the organization’s work to preserve and reactivate Tesla’s only remaining laboratory at Wardenclyffe. The presentation also outlined plans for the Tesla’s Table series as a powerful new vehicle for community building, fundraising, and education.

A historian from the New Yorker Hotel delivered a compelling account of Tesla’s years living on the hotel’s 33rd floor, from 1933 until his death in 1943. Guests learned about the Grand Ballroom birthday celebrations held in Tesla’s honor, his receipt of international awards, and the unique technological features of the hotel—including its own power plant—that likely appealed to Tesla’s sensibilities as an electrical pioneer.

Artist Clayton Orehek unveiled his series of neon works inspired by Tesla’s life and work, including a glowing outline of the hotel and a hand-cranked neon Tesla signature. His installation became a focal point for guests throughout the evening.

Dr. Rich Gearns, President of the TSCW Board of Directors, followed with a talk on Tesla’s invention of the teleautomaton—an early radio-controlled boat and precursor to drone technology. The talk set the stage for further programming at the upcoming Tesla Expo 2025, where innovation will once again take center stage.

Distinguished Guests & Global Recognition

The evening welcomed a range of influential guests and supporters, including Greg Olsen, entrepreneur, space traveler, and TSCW Board Member, Peter Klein, President of the Claire Friedlander Foundation, Cynthia von Buhler, acclaimed author and multimedia artist, members of the Republic of Serbia’s delegation, including Dr. Vladimir Bozovic, NYC Consul General, and esteemed guest Crown Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic, representing Tesla’s homeland and his global influence.

The presence of international dignitaries underscored Tesla’s enduring legacy as a citizen of the world—an innovator whose ideas transcend borders and generations.

A Traveling Tribute to Tesla

Following the success of the NYC launch, Tesla’s Table will expand to additional cities across the country. Each event will be hosted at culturally or historically significant venues connected to Tesla’s life, legacy, or mission—and will feature local thought leaders, immersive exhibits, and new programming.

Guests, supporters, and members of the public are encouraged to join TSCW’s mailing list to stay informed about upcoming Tesla’s Table events and other initiatives by visiting www.teslasciencecenter.org.

By reimagining Tesla’s salons for a modern audience, Tesla Science Center is building a community of changemakers, innovators, and storytellers dedicated to advancing Tesla’s vision—and ensuring his only remaining lab continues to inspire generations to come.
