Announcements
Shoreham, NY – September 5, 2025 – Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe (TSCW) is proud to announce that construction has officially begun on the highly anticipated Eugene Sayan Visitor Center, marking an important milestone in the effort to restore Nikola Tesla’s last remaining laboratory into a global science center.
The Visitor Center represents more than just a building—it is a place for gathering, learning, and connecting the community to Nikola Tesla’s legacy. As TSCW continues restoration on Nikola Tesla’s last remaining laboratory in the world, the new Visitor Center will serve as a vital first step in welcoming the public. At 2,200 square feet of indoor space, complemented by planned outdoor areas, the Center will provide powerful opportunities to expand programming, welcome visitors, and lay the groundwork for future restoration and growth.
Made possible through the generosity of Eugene Sayan, the Ludwick Foundation, National Grid, Suffolk County, New York State Economic Development, and many others, the project is equally the result of the thousands of supporters, volunteers, neighbors, and friends who have stood behind TSCW since its founding.
“At its heart, Tesla Science Center is dedicated to preserving Nikola Tesla’s past, present, and future legacy,” said Douglas Borge, Interim Executive Director of TSCW.
“This Visitor Center will help us live that mission every day. It is one step on the journey, and we are so grateful to everyone who has made it possible.”
The Eugene Sayan Visitor Center will provide:
- Expanded historical tours and docent training following Smithsonian standards
- Growth of STEAM programs for schools, libraries, and community events
- Our first exhibition and preservation space for artifacts and archives
- Administrative offices to reduce operating costs and direct more resources to programs and restoration
- A meaningful, consistent place for members and visitors to connect with Tesla’s story
TSCW anticipates opening the Visitor Center to the public on Fridays and Saturdays starting in early summer 2026. The Center will serve as a welcoming hub where history, science, and community come together, while also acting as a foundation for the organization’s broader vision: developing Nikola Tesla’s last remaining laboratory into a global science center that celebrates innovation, inspires future generations, and preserves Tesla’s remarkable legacy.
TSCW invites all supporters who have stood with us since the lab was saved in 2013 to remain part of this important journey. Membership opportunities are available, and the Bricks for Nik campaign offers the chance to leave a lasting mark on the new Visitor Center’s outdoor patio. While the complete restoration of Wardenclyffe is still ahead, construction now underway on the Visitor Center marks a pivotal step forward. With the strength of community support, TSCW has a true gathering space to help complete this vision.
