Come on out to Wardenclyffe Science Pub for an evening that’s part talk show, part trivia competition, and all fascinating, weird, and wildly fun science.
Inspired by the bold curiosity of Nikola Tesla, whose groundbreaking ideas once sparked discovery at Wardenclyffe, this lively event celebrates big questions, new technologies, and the joy of learning something unexpected.
Hosted by Richard Jordan, the evening features brilliantly nerdy guests sharing short talks and lively conversations that blend science, storytelling, and humor. Together, they’ll explore discoveries shaping our world, from robots and AI to lasers, particle beams, outer space, and beyond.
Then, put your brainpower to the test as the night wraps up with a science and tech trivia competition inspired by our guest speakers, with prizes for the winners.
Presented in collaboration with Blue Point Brewery and Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, Science Pub brings together great minds, great conversations, and great drinks while supporting the mission to restore Nikola Tesla’s last remaining laboratory.
About the Host: Richard Jordan
Expect a night of smart, fast-moving, and funny science conversations led by host Richard Jordan.
A New York–based actor, producer, and host, Richard has appeared in comedic roles on TIRES (Netflix), The Chair Company (HBO), and national campaigns for brands like DraftKings and Texas Pete. His background in live entertainment spans everything from hosting daily shows at Club Med to producing and hosting one of the earliest online TV series, Vidocity.
At Wardenclyffe Science Pub, he’ll be asking the questions you’re probably thinking, keeping the energy high, and making complex ideas approachable and fun. Whether you’re a science enthusiast or just curious, you’ll leave entertained, a little smarter, and glad you came.
Come curious, come thirsty, and enjoy the ride!
Featured Guest Speakers
Jillian Bellovary is an Associate Professor at the City University of New York – Queensborough Community College, and is also the founder and director of the CUNY Masters in Astrophysics program. She is also a Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History, where she has learned to drive the Hayden Planetarium and can do shows in English and Spanish. She uses cosmological simulations to study black hole formation and evolution, focusing on predicting the detection of intermediate mass black holes with gravitational waves. Jillian is well known in the field for always asking about off-center black holes and knitting during talks. She recently retired from a 15 career in roller derby, and now spends her free time hiking and lifting weights. https://jillianbellovary.com/
Matthew Pappas is an Associate Professor of Astronomy at Suffolk County Community College. Over the course of his 25-year career, he has performed research on remote observing at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, guided students on creating 3D visualizations at Brookhaven National Laboratory and participated in workshops on exoplanet research at Caltech and OpenSpace simulations at the American Museum of Natural History. He also works heavily with informal science education by bringing the joys of astronomy to the local community through a variety of outreach efforts including on-campus observing events and hosting programs for kids of all ages at local schools and public libraries. When not gazing skyward, Matthew spends many hours trying to convince his wife and daughters that he’s more than a science nerd… with little to no luck.
Sean Tvelia is a Professor of Geology and Chair of the Department of Physical Sciences at Suffolk County Community College. His research interests involve the relationship between glacial hydrology and glaciotectonic processes in the development of Long Island landforms and the geocultural development of Long Island’s indigenous people. Aside from his academic responsibility in the geology program at Suffolk, Sean is also the PI for the NSF-sponsored I-SUCCESS program which provides scholarships and extracurricular research activities for STEM majors at SCCC and the NSF FRES program, a collaboration between Stony Brook University, Columbia University, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Suffolk, and Kingsborough Community College, to model and test hypotheses regarding the thermomechanical process that led to the collapse of the Southwest Cordillera. He is past president of the GEO 2YC Division of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers. Locally, Sean also consults with the Peconic Land Trust and the Graves Protection Warrior Society to identify and preserve Native American burial sites. In his spare time he is also founding board member of Hamptons Observatory, a not-for-profit organization on the East End of Long Island with a world-wide following that provides free public science lectures with renown scientists.
