Do you have a passion for history, science, and education? Do you enjoy learning new things, engaging with people, and sharing knowledge? If so, consider becoming a Volunteer Docent at Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe!
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our docent team and lead guided historical tours of the last remaining laboratory of Nikola Tesla. As a docent, you will bring Tesla’s groundbreaking ideas to life and provide an unforgettable educational experience for visitors from around the world.
About the Volunteer Docent Program
Docents are essential to our mission of preserving, restoring, and interpreting Wardenclyffe—the only remaining site of Nikola Tesla’s work. Through docent-led tours, visitors embark on an engaging one-hour journey exploring three core elements of Tesla’s legacy:
- Nikola Tesla’s Life & Work
Discover the visionary scientist who revolutionized electricity, wireless technology, and more.
- The History of Wardenclyffe
Learn about Tesla’s ambitious project for global wireless energy transmission.
- Tesla Science Center Today
Explore our nonprofit’s mission to restore the site and inspire future innovation.
Docents receive training in interactive storytelling, helping visitors of all ages and backgrounds appreciate Tesla’s contributions and the significance of Wardenclyffe as a historic landmark.
Volunteer Commitment & Training
We offer comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure our docents feel confident and empowered. As a docent, you will receive:
- In-depth training covering Tesla’s history, the Wardenclyffe site, and effective tour techniques.
- Ongoing learning opportunities through educational sessions with historians, scientists, and Tesla experts.
- Flexible scheduling, with a minimum of two tours per month (tours are offered daily).
Requirements:
- Completion of the initial docent training program.
- Commitment to lead at least two tours per month.
- Participation in periodic enrichment sessions to stay current on historical and scientific topics.
- Enthusiasm for learning and sharing knowledge in an engaging, accessible way.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong communication and storytelling abilities.
- Passion for history, science, and education.
- Ability to adapt tours to different audiences, from students to seasoned historians.
