See the Spark! Electricity Basics for Young Scientists

Beginning May 1, 2026

Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe is excited to introduce See the Spark!, a dynamic 90 minute youth group program that explores the fundamentals of electrical energy and the pivotal role Nikola Tesla played in shaping the modern electrical age.

Designed for children ages 6–12, this engaging experience brings science and history to life through hands-on activities, creative projects, and captivating demonstrations — all set on the historic grounds where Tesla once worked. To better understand Nikola Tesla’s impact, we invite our young visitors to pretend the year is 1901, and to dress in the style of the day, and bring  with them 1 small item a child living at that time might use.

Programs will be held outdoors on the Wardenclyffe campus, please dress for the weather.

What Students Will Experience

Participants learn what their world might have been  like when electricity was in its infancy.  They will explore foundational electrical concepts in an age-appropriate and exciting way, including:

  • Recognizing energy in its many forms
  • What  electricity  is, and how it “travels”
  • The basics of static and current electricity
  • Nikola Tesla’s role in developing alternating current
  • Why Tesla’s innovations still power our world today

Through guided experiments, creative crafts, and live demonstrations, students will see science in action — not just hear about it.
